Ukiyo-e Black

This new UT collection is focused on ukiyo-e featuring yokai motifs that became popular during the Edo period.

The world of ukiyo-e features many yokai that are mysterious creatures. Although they were feared for being beyond human understanding, they captivated people in the Edo period because they were also somehow humorous and approachable. This collection, “Ukiyo-e Black” focuses on the unique aesthetic sensibility expressed through the varying shades of ink and the delicate use of color with yokai motifs. Enjoy this distinct ukiyo-e world of both tranquility and mystery.
